Educate a child
The cost to educate a child is calculated by taking the running costs of the school and dividing by the number of pupils we are currently educating. Pupils do not pay any fees to attend Shine Zambia Reading Academy, nor do they have to cover any additional costs (eg. uniform, exam fees, lunch or any other cost).
Pay the salary of a teacher
The cost to pay the salary of a teacher is calculated by taking the teaching staff costs of the school and dividing by the number of teachers we currently have.
Feed a class
Shine Zambia receives donations of maize flour, pulses and cooking oil from the World Food Programme. In order to run our feeding programme, Shine Zambia needs to cover the cost of paying local cooks and buying charcoal, salt and cooking equipment. The cost to feed a class is calculated by taking the total cost to us of preparing the food and dividing by the number of classes we currently have.
These costs will change as the running costs of the school change, due to changes in the number of pupils, changes in the price of materials in Zambia and fluctuations in exchange rates. We will regularly update these costs to keep them as accurate as possible. The current prices were calculated in March 2012.
Your gift will not be matched against a specific child, teacher or class, and you will not be informed of the name of a specific child, teacher or class, or have the opportunity to be in contact with a child, teacher or class.
If insufficient donations are made towards to the cost of educating Shine pupils then we will cover all of the costs of educating the currently enrolled pupils. No pupil will lose their place at our school.
If insufficient donations are made towards to the cost of paying teacher salaries then Shine will cover all of the costs of paying our current teaching staff. No teacher will lose their position at our school.
If insufficient donations are made towards to the cost of feeding the pupils then we will cover all of the costs of our feeding programme. No pupil will lose their free daily meal at our school.
By donating money to contribute towards our existing costs, you will be providing the support we need to educate more pupils, feed more children and employ more local staff in the future.
